Herbal Remedies for Lichen Sclerosus(Skin Disorder)
ABSTRACT
Skin is one of the essential parts which covers the whole body and is also one of the sensitive organs. Everybody wants their skin to look clear and beautiful without any scars or patches. There are many diseases related to the skin which make the skin look patchy like Vitiligo, dermatitis, etc but there is one more rare disease known as Lichen Sclerosus. There are not many people with this skin disorder and it mostly affects the skin around the genital region. Today in this article we are going to discuss Lichen Sclerosus in detail and its management through herbal medicine.
WHAT IS LICHEN SCLEROSUS?
Lichen Sclerosus is basically a lymphocyte-mediated inflammatory skin disorder that is bought by the overwork of lymphocytes. It is mainly characterised by white patches on the skin and is typically seen on the anogenital region including the skin around the penis and anus in men and the vulva in women. Mostly seen in females after their menopausal age and in children it is very rarely noted. It is non-contagious and does not spread through sexual contact. Lichen sclerosus should be treated on time in order to avoid any kind of complications.
WHAT ARE THE SIGN AND SYMPTOMS OF LICHEN SCLEROSUS?
People who suffer from mild lichen sclerosus do not suffer any kind of symptoms. The signs mostly are seen on the genital area but it can also affect the upper body as well. Common symptoms seen are:-
- Itching and irritation
- White patches make a change into wrinkled patches.
- Skin can tear easily.
- Bleeding or ulcerated lesions
- Pain while having intercourse.
- Bruising on the skin
- Urine retention
- Constipation
In some cases when chronic results in a very painful condition in women due to tenderness and itching. Along with that, the opening of the vagina becomes very narrow due to scar formation. There are cases where lichen sclerosus causes thinning and tightening of the foreskin making eating difficult in urination in males and painful erection.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES FOR LICHEN SCLEROSUS?
- The main cause for lichen sclerosus is not known but it is believed it is caused due to an overactive immune system.
- Hormonal imbalance is also considered one of the reasons for lichen Sclerosus.
- Previous skin damage can also result in lichen sclerosus on the particular affected part.
- Postmenopausal women are also at risk.
WHAT TYPE OF DIAGNOSIS CAN BE DONE?
The physical examination can help in diagnosis because of its distinctive characteristic of white color patches.
Biopsy where the affected part of the tissue is diagnosed under a microscope.
TREATMENT OF LICHEN SCLEROSUS
According to Allopaths the treatment for lichen sclerosus is by providing corticosteroids and creams which will only affect the skin but not the cause. This medicine will treat the disease only externally but the symptoms might return after some days. This can also cause some other complications for the patient.
According to Ayurveda Lichen sclerosus is considered as Kushtha and the etiology for this disease is Visha (Autoimmune) which is caused by exposure to harmful chemicals, contaminated foods, stress and many more. Stress is one of the reasons for violating the Rasa dhatu (Plasma) and Rasa Vaha srotas (Plasma channels). The vitilation can be easily managed through herbal medicine which will not only treat the disease but will remove the main cause of the disease.

2. Dermo-Plan Syrup
This is a natural herbal syrup that is very useful in skin problems and is packed with herbs like
- Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus)
- Shatara (Fumaria Officinalis)
- Haridra (Curcuma longa)
- Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia)
- Khadir (Areca catechu) and many more

5. Nirgundi oil
