Hypertension or high blood pressure plays a contributing role in most heart attacks and strokes. Lifestyle changes are a part of treating hypertension and mostly include more physical activities, a healthy eating plan (fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy foods), losing weight, eating foods with less salt, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. The doctor may prescribe medication to treat hypertension. Chemotherapeutic drugs lead to various side-effects. Even surgery is recommended in severe cases of hypertension.
