People suffering from Paranoid personality disorder (PPD) are under constant denial and do not think that there is any problem with their way of thinking. In this article you can get all the information about PPD and Ayurvedic remedies to treat it naturally.
INTRODUCTION TO PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
Paranoid personality disorder is a long term mental health condition which involves a pattern of an unrelenting mistrust, paranoia and suspicion of others without any reason. It is to be made clear that unlike Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder these people do not experience hallucinations or delusions with paranoia. Some of the hallmarks of PPD are holding unwanted grudges, being reluctant to confess feelings to others, quick feelings of hostility and anger for others and finding threatening or demeaning subtexts in events or comments that are completely innocent. It can be difficult to treat such people because they have serious trust issues. Along with medicines it is necessary for them to have consultations with mental health professionals so that they can build trust of the patient in the doctor.
AYURVEDIC ASPECT OF PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
As per Ayurveda, the mental health of a person is based on a combination of tridosha, three gunas and panchabhuta. All these factors which are inherited at birth indicate the Prakriti of a person. Hence when these factors are in balance, it creates good mental health and when any of it is disturbed mental illnesses arise.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
Symptoms presenting this mental health disorder can interfere with the ability of a person to have trust and build close relationships with others. Signs and symptoms of PPD include:
- They believe that other people are deceiving or using them and doubt their loyalty, commitment and trustworthiness
- They have constant fear that if they share the personal information, the other person will use it against them and hence are reluctant to confide in others
- People suffering from PPD hold grudges against others and are unforgiving
- Criticism cannot be taken by them and handle it very poorly owing to their hypersensitivity
- Feel intent to other or read hidden meaning from even casual looks or innocent remarks
- They keep on suspecting their lovers or spouses to be unfaithful in relationship without any reason
- Such people can become jealous and controlling, however generally they are very distant and cold in relationships
- They have a belief that they are always right and never see their role in conflicts
- These people are unwontedly argumentative, stubborn and hostile
- They have problem in relaxing
CAUSES OF PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
The definite cause behind the Paranoid personality disorder is not known. However there are certain psychological and biological factors in combination which eventually causes PPD. There is also a certain level of genetic link in this disorder as usually people with close relatives suffering from PPD are seen to develop it. Bad experiences in early childhood like emotional or physical trauma might also play a role in development of this condition.
DIAGNOSIS OF PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
If your doctor suspects the presence of certain physical symptoms then they will go for the complete psychiatric and medical history by performing certain physical examinations. However there are no laboratory tests present yet in medical science which can directly diagnose PPD but some tests can help in ruling out the presence of any other physical illness which can cause these symptoms.
And if in these tests no physical illness is found, the patient is referred to the psychiatrist, or other health care professionals that are trained in dealing with such conditions.
TREATMENT OF PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
Usually the people suffering from PPD do not seek treatment themselves because they are not able to see the problem on their own. Conventionally it is treated with the help of a form of counseling, i.e. psychotherapy. Treatment aims at improving social interaction, coping skills generally, self esteem and communication.
AYURVEDIC TREATMENT OF PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
In Ayurveda along with the herbal and natural medicines certain therapies like Satvavajaya chikitsa and spiritual therapy is used to annihilate the mental illness completely. Satvavajaya chikitsa is a form of Ayurvedic psychotherapy which aims at restraining and controlling the mind from insignificant stressors and artha (objects).
