WHAT IS VESTIBULAR HYPOFUNCTION? AYURVEDIC TREATMENT WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
Abstract
A complex set of structures that are known to serve a wide range of functions that are important for a sense of equilibrium in the body is called the vestibular system of the body. The vestibular system plays a very important role in a variety of body functions. The coordination of eye movements, the balance of posture, and equilibrium are maintained by a vestibular system of the body. Here in this article, we will discuss vestibular hypofunction and ayurvedic treatment with herbal remedies, a problem associated with a vestibular system with particular reference to actor Varun Dhawan. Let’s continue.
Introduction
Vestibular system is formed of a bony labyrinth and a vestibule with semicircular canals. Vestibular hypofunction is a condition that affects the balance of an individual. Vestibular hypofunction occurs when the ear, especially the internal part of the ear, does not work properly. The poor functioning of the vestibular system may be associated with vertigo, dizziness, vomiting, and cognitive failures. There is an inability to respond properly and the person feels dizzy. Hence here in this article, we will discuss vestibular hypofunction with its ayurvedic aspect.

Ayurvedic Aspect
As per the Ayurvedic context, we can correlate the Vestibular hypofunction with Vata prakopa (aggravation of Vata) in the body. A poor lifestyle and improper intake of food lead to the accumulation of toxins in the body. Predominantly Vyan Vayu (a type of Vata) and Pran Vayu (another type of Vata) are aggravated leading to sroto dushti (infiltrating or blocking the channels) with vitiated pitta and kapha dosha. Bhram i.e delusion is the most basic clinical feature associated with this problem. This vata prakopa (the aggravation of Vata dosha) leads to shunyata (emptiness), samarnshakti nash (memory loss), and balbhransh (loss of strength). Even a person is not able to recall and recognize the easy things.
From the perspective of Ayurvedic management, Panchakarma can be done to drain out the doshas. Vaman karma and Nasya therapy can be advised as per shodhana karma. Herbs that can help to manage Vestibular hypofunction are Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Vacha (Acorus calamus), Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis), and Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and many more. These herbs are also present as the chief ingredient in the formulations of Planet Ayurveda. Which we will discuss below.
