AYURVEDIC OVERVIEW OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE
Chronic kidney disease is a long-term condition in which kidneys are damaged and their function affected. The kidney helps in excreting toxins, extra salts and fluids from the body. Due to this condition kidneys are unable to filter the blood which leads to the accumulation of waste in the body. In Ayurveda, there is no direct correlation of Chronic kidney disease with any particular condition. However, the Pathogenesis of this condition can be made according to symptoms. The Doshas are the energetic forces of nature that are present in the human body and are three in number i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Dushas can be used in the sense of Dhatu (body tissue) and malas (waste products). In chronic kidney disease, renal function impairment occurs due to the vitiation of Tridosha (vata dominant) and all the dushyas are involved in this disease. The vitiation of tridosha leads to obstruction of microchannels of Mutravaha srotas (urinary system) which helps in the excretion of waste products from the body through the kidneys. The blockage of these channels of the urinary system results in damage to kidney cells.
