Abstract
Morgellons disease is a rare skin disorder which is characterized by skin lesions or fibres underneath the skin or protruding the skin. People with this condition experience biting and stinging sensation in their skin. The symptoms of this disorder are very painful and they can interfere with your daily routine and quality of life. Introduction
Morgellons disease is a rare skin condition in which skin sores are present. These sores are fibrous like structures. These sores are results of compulsive scratches. It is a delusion disorder that leads to belief that one has foreign material inside the skin or coming out of the skin. Many researchers believe that Morgellons disease is a form of psychosis that made someone believe that they are suffering parasitic infestations. This disease is not contagious and no environment toxin is responsible for development of this disease.
Signs and symptoms
People who are suffering from Morgellons disease may have variable signs and symptoms. Most common symptoms are-
- Presence of skin rashes that can cause intense itching
- Crawling sensation on or under the skin, stinging or biting sensation.
- Mood swings most of time depressed mood
- Short term memory los
- Fibres or thread like material on the skin.
- Fatigue
- Joint pains and body pain

- Difficulty in concentrating
- Headache

Stages of Morgellons disease
There are three stages of Morgellons disease.
- First stage is associated with a crawling sensation under the skin area of the face and scalp. This is an acute stage but it can occur over any body part. The initial stage lasts up to 12 months.
- The second stage is characterized by an active feeling of itching, biting, stinging sensation. There is a feeling of chronic itching all the time.
- The third stage appears as physical damage to skin. It occurs due to constant itching and scraping of skin. There are blisters, lesions and sores which occur due to chronic itching.
Causes of Morgellons disease
The exact cause of Morgellons disease is unclear. According to various researches it is considered a delusion disorder and has no specific pathology behind it. It is considered a controversial condition according to some people these fibres are from clothes but according to some people these fibers are formed from human skin cells. The basic reason for this disease is still unclear.
Risk factors
There are few factors which contribute to Morgellons disease.
- People who are exposed to a tick
- People suffering from Lyme disease
- Hypothyroidism
- Females are more prone to Morgellons disease.
Diagnosis
This disease is usually self-diagnosable. The diagnosis of Morgellons disease has no standard diagnostic criteria. The diagnosis is usually made on the basis of the complete history of the patient. If a patient comes with a specific skin condition then the doctor can advise skin biopsy, skin scraping or blood tests. Most patients present complaints of skin itching and ulcer formation. A history of drug abuse must be included as it can induce compulsive skin picking.
Ayurvedic aspect of mollegeron disease
As per modern science there is no exact treatment for Morgellons disease. Ayurveda is an ancient science of indian medicine which works on the principle of prevention as well as treatment of disease. There are three energies vata, pitta and kapha. In case of Morgellons disease, pitta is aggravated and which causes itching sensation in the body. But it can be managed by avoiding junk food, oily food and eating more vegetables and fruits.

They are good for improving overall health.
Dosage – 2 tablets twice daily with plain water after meals.
3. Gleaming Skin, Hair, Nails Formula
This is an effective formulation to manage Morgellons disease. It is prepared by Manjishta (Rubia cordifolia), Pitpapda (Fumaria officinalis), Ghritkumarii (Aloe barbadensis). Nirgundi oil is prepared by using Nirgudi (Vitex negundo) and Neem (Azadirachta indica) is the main ingredient of neem oil.
