What is low Blood Pressure?
As per modern Aspect
Blood pressure is defined as the sudden drop in the flow of blood to the organs of the body where the reading is lower than 90 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) that is systolic and 60 mm Hg that is diastolic is generally considered as low blood pressure. It is not considered as low blood pressure if there are no symptoms present. It is also known as hypotension.
As per Ayurveda aspect
There is the combination of vata along with ohja kshaya and rasa dhatu kashya is mainly responsible for hypotension. Its symptoms are Hridya tamayati (palpitation), ama darshna (toxin formation), vyathitha indriya (loss of senses), vibheti (terror), angamarda (pain in the body), durbala (weakness) and durmana (unhappy thoughts).

- Dehydration caused by vomiting, and diarrhea etc
- Addison’s disease (low adrenal hormones)
- Postural hypotension
- Deficiency of Vitamin B 12
- Heart disorders such as blood clots in the heart slowed heart rate
- Alcohol
- Septic shock
- Head injury
- High blood pressure medications
- Pregnancy
- Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction)
- Anemia
- Low blood sugar
What are the Symptoms of Low Blood Pressure?
Symptoms include
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Blurred vision
- Lack of concentration
- Sweating
- Fatigue
- Depression
- Fainting
- Shock
- Weak and rapid pulse
- Pale and cold skin
How to Raise Low Blood Pressure with Diet?
1. Salt
Salt contains sodium that can raise blood pressure that results in the extra fluid-up in the body that mixes with the bloodstream. Increasing in blood volume increases the blood pressure. Intake of sodium diet reduces the problem of hypotension. In summers, mix a pinch of salt with lime water that is also helpful in low blood pressure.
Steps to follow
- Mix half teaspoon of salt in a glass of water and drink this mixture.
2. Vitamins
Vitamin B, B9, and B 12 are important for healthy blood pressure. Deficiency of these vitamins lead to anemia that can cause hypotension. Vitamins are helpful in normalizing the blood vessels especially in case of shock and sepsis.

Foods that contain Vitamin B 12 includes
- Cottage cheese
- Eggs
- Beef Liver
- Nutritional yeast
- Sardines
Foods containing Vitamin B9 are
- Broccoli
- Spinach

3. Rosemary
Rosemary is useful in stimulating the central nervous system and improves circulation that help in normalizing blood pressure.
Steps to follow
- Add rosemary tincture to your foods or intake 10ml juice of rosemary daily.
4. Licorice
Licorice contains sodium as well potassium that can correct these levels by showing its effects on adrenal enzyme systems by supporting the functions of adrenaline in a healthy manner. It also maintains the metabolism of aldosterone and is mainly effective in orthostatic hypotension.
Steps to follow
- Add one teaspoon of licorice (dried or powered) in two cups of water than boil it for 5 to 10 mins until it remains one cup. Strain the licorice water and take it daily.
5. Carrot
Carrot is rich in potassium which is helpful in treating low blood pressure.
Steps to follow
- Add two teaspoons of honey in a glass of carrot juice and drink it twice daily (on empty stomach).
6. Tulsi
Tulsi leaves are very helpful in regulating low blood pressure because it contains high levels of potassium, vitamin C, and magnesium. It contains an antioxidant called as Eugenol that keeps the blood pressure under control. Tulsi herb helps in reducing stress.

- Add one teaspoon of honey in Tulsi leaves juice and drink it daily on an empty stomach.
7. Munakka (Raisins)
It has a lot of medicinal properties that help in increasing vitality, stables low BP, and promotes the circulation.

- Soak some munakka overnight and eat it without seeds in the morning.
8. Lemon Juice
It is quite effective in treating low blood pressure caused by dehydration. It provides energy to the body by stimulating the liver functions and helps in digestion.

- Take a lemon squeeze it in a glass of water. Drink this mixture.
9. Almond Milk
Almonds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and magnesium that are good at lowering blood pressure and also lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

- Soak 5-6 almonds in water overnight and then peel off the skin and make a paste of it.
- Boil this paste in a cup of milk and drink it every morning.
10. Ginger
Ginger is very effective in treating low blood pressure because it has powerful anti-oxidants. Ginger contain chemicals like gingerol and shogal that helps in preventing low blood pressure.

- Include ginger herb in your diet.
- You can drink an herbal tea made from ginger herb.

- Cross legs while sitting
- By sitting with legs cross helps in elevating the low blood pressure and regulates it with minimal effort.
- Eat small portions of meals frequently
- Eating small portions of meals help in preventing the sudden drop in blood pressure.
