ABSTRACT
Mixed expressive-receptive disorder is a kind of language disorder that occurs in the age group of children. Child development includes the growth of the child physically as well as mentally. This disease is associated with mental development which includes developmental milestones. Developmental milestones are a group of functional skills that a child may develop with growing age. These are the only diagnostic equipment that a doctor uses to evaluate if a child’s skills are developing with the growing age. And each milestone used to come in a role with some exact age but it varies from child to child. In this article we are going to discuss one such disease that is associated with the developmental of a child. So let’s discuss mixed expressive receptive disorders and its ayurvedic treatment.
INTRODUCTION
Mixed expressive-receptive disorder generally occurs in childhood and is one of the language disorders. It is of two types- one is developmental and the other one is acquired. The developmental one occurs and usually conflicts when the child is in the stage of learning and the acquired one occurs suddenly as a result of any trauma or stroke and it can occur at any age. As per ayurveda Mixed receptive-expressive disorder occurs as a result of vata dosha dushti which leads to difficulty speaking. Further in the article we will cuss the causes and the symptoms of Mixed receptive-expressive disorder.
CAUSES
The exact cause is unknown but some researchers believe that the biological and environmental factors are the reason behind it. The mentioned cause is for developmental one but the acquired form results from injury, stroke, any medical condition, traumatic, stroke, etc. As we read there is no specific cause of the disease so with the symptoms of the disease let’s study its symptoms. The symptoms of developmental will be the same but for acquired one symptoms may vary as per the different affected areas of the brain.
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms generally vary from child to child and mainly characterized by difficulty in speech. The pronunciation of words is not problematic but there is a difficulty in making sentences by using proper recalling words, grammar and more similar communication difficulties while speaking. A child with this condition is not able to meet the needs, thoughts, wants and with the same complexity and same level or the peers. There is a difficulty in understanding even what the person talking with them is saying. The lack of understanding results in unsuitable responses and failure to follow the command. Some people think the children with mixed receptive-expressive disorder are awkward but it is not so. They simply are not able to understand what is going on and what the other people are saying. They face difficulty while understanding the complex sentences, abstract nouns, etc.
Some Common Signs Noticed are Mentioned as Follows:

- Unable to name any object
DIAGNOSIS
As we read the signs and symptoms of mixed receptive-expressive disorder that are generally used to diagnose the developmental type of this disorder. But for diagnosing the acquired type of this disorder there is a need for proper history while there is a history of any stroke, trauma, injury, etc that affects the particular area of the brain. If needed CT Scan or MRI will be done in case of acquired mixed receptive-expressive disorder.
AYURVEDIC VIEW
As per ayurveda there is no exact correlation of Mixed Expressive-Receptive disorder but we can associate this condition with vitiation of vata dosha. As vata dosha is responsible for any of the functions occurring in the body whether it is walking, running, speaking and various other body functions. The developmental one is correlated with vata dosha vitiation and delay in bal-sanskara (developmental milestones). But the acquired one is associated with the abhighataj or sharirik nidaan such as trauma, stroke, injury, etc. If your child is suffering from the same condition you can start the ayurvedic management for improving your child’s development.
