Natural and Ayurvedic Treatment Of Ovarian Cysts
Your periods are normal. There ain’t any pain troubling you nor an irritation to complain about! But still, have you been worrying about that small swelling in your cervix which you accidentally found out? Is that thought haunting you if it could make you infertile? Got you distressed trying to figure out what it is? You took a pelvic examination, an MRI and an ultrasound. And are you now trying to gather some information about this uninvited guest? You are at the very right place. Let us explain! These tiny white bumps on your cervix are called ‘Nabothian cysts.’
So what exactly are Nabothian Cysts?
Though the name might give you a scary image of some dangerous disease, these are neither an indication of cervical cancer nor of any life threatening condition as you may think. It’s actually a small cystic swelling (like a cavity) filled with mucus that arises in the cervix/cervical canal of the female. The mucus which is a clear fluid that fills the cyst is secreted by certain glands normally present in the cervical lining. And this is what makes the swelling, soft and compressible. It simply arises due to the blockage of the outlet belonging to tiny glands present along the cervical lining. This happens due to the deposition of excessive cells. The excessive cell aggregation usually happens as part of healing followed by any cervical trauma, delivery or cervical inflammation (cervicitis).
In case of a large cyst causing symptoms, the doctor may suggest surgical removal of the cyst. With the advent of modern imaging techniques like ultrasound, MRI, and a CT scan, Nabothian cysts are detected early during routine examinations. So nothing you should be worrying about.
Signs and Symptoms
Nabothian cyst usually doesn’t cause any pain or other symptoms enough for your discomfort. Therefore the chances are your doctor found them out on a routine per vaginal examination. These cysts are seen as smooth white or as yellow swelling in the cervix. The size of the cyst usually ranges from a few millimetres to 4 centimetres but can rarely be big enough to obstruct the cervical canal.
Can you be pregnant if you have a Nabothian Cyst?
Time to relax. In the majority of cases, Nabothian cysts do not cause any trouble related to pregnancy. In fact these cysts are common during the gestation period. Very rarely, if the cyst is too large that it obstructs the cervical canal or deforms the cervix, it may cause some concern during pregnancy. But these are rare cases. What is Polycystic Ovarian Disease?
Ayurveda and Ovarian Cysts
In this contemporary science, ovaries are known as Aartav and hard masses or cysts are commonly known by the name Granthi. The tissue differentiation being the function of Kapha dosha, any extra masses on the body are considered to be an irregular functioning of Kapha.
Since the ovarian cysts are present inside the reproductive tract aka Artava vaha srotas of females, they are guarded by Rasa and Rakta dhatu according to Ayurveda. And this is what favours their growth as well. The impurities and endotoxin accumulation inside Rasa-Rakta dhatus pave way for further development of cysts and can only be brought under control by purification and restoration of Rasa-Rakta dhatus along with the Kapha dosha accompanying them.
