Natural Cure For Syringoma
ABSTRACT
Syringoma are sweat gland duct tumors, which are benign in nature i.e non-cancerous and harmless. These tumors are caused by overactive sweat glands that usually develop near the face on neck, upper cheeks and eyelids but may also be found on abdomen, chest and armpit. Some of them are small papules like growth in the ducts of sweat glands, mainly eccrine and are presented as small yellow colored. It mainly occurs in women rather than men. Asian or dark skinned populations are affected more. In this article we will discuss the ayurvedic point of view regarding the disease and its management according to the natural ayurvedic herbs.
INTRODUCTION
Syringoma is a benign tumor of the sweat gland duct affecting the body areas like eyelids, cheek, abdomen, face and armpit where few papules-like clusters are seen of 1-3 mm size. Mostly people are not presented with any symptoms but may be associated with itching, irritation and foreign body sensation. These are caused by the overgrowth of cells in eccrine glands, one of the sweat glands. These are generally skin colored or sometimes found as yellowish papules in the skin. They may be confused with other forms of lid tumors like xanthoma, xanthelasma and trichoepithelioma.
Forms of Syringoma
- Eruptive type form- It is usually generalized form occurring at a particular area like neck, arm and abdomen
- Plaque- it is mainly associated with itching and epidermal thickening
- Milia- small lesions looking like milia having white milky center
- Localized form
Pathophysiology- It is generally caused due to genetic alterations in the chromosomes of the lesion. They commonly arise from the intradermal portion of eccrine ducts of sweat glands resulting from hyperplasia of the cells due to inflammation of the area affected.
AYURVEDIC VIEW
According to ayurveda all the disease occurs due to the vitiation of tridoshas (vata, pitta, kapha) and in this benign disease mainly there is predominance of kapha dosha leading to the dushti (vitiation) of udaka vaha and sweda vaha srotas or sweat glands leading to the obstruction in the ducts of the sweat producing glands and their channels thus leading to the blockage in the channels carrying the sweat and tear making the pent up of the secretion and extra growth and proliferation of cells and giving rise to the non- cancerous benign growth in areas like eyelid, armpit, face and navel. It is generally painless and only causes irritation and itching over time.
This condition might be confused with other conditions like xanthoma and xanthelasma where there is the accumulation of fat deposits under the eyelid which is also painless and an outward growth of the skin.
This condition can be managed by using kapha reducing herbs and diet as mentioned in the classical texts of ayurveda like adrak (ginger), ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), triphala (Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellirica, Emblica officinalis) , haridra (Curcuma longa), garlic (Allium sativum) etc. for maintaining healthy kapha balance in body.
CAUSES
These are mainly caused by mutation in certain genes or chromosomes. Syringoma associated with Down syndrome is localized to the periorbital region. Some other diseases like diabetes may also lead to the accumulation of glycogen in the skin.
DIAGNOSIS
These syringomas are diagnosed clinically in distribution patterns over the body.
- Family history for ruling out genetic involvement
- Skin biopsy- to examine the cells of the affected area under microscope
TREATMENT
The main treatment is focused on getting exemption from the bumpy growth with both medical and surgical methods. Some methods are to be done in multiple sittings and might be time consuming.
- Surgical- surgical excision is done
- Electrocoagulation
- Carbon dioxide lasers
- Topical atropine
- Cryosurgery
- Chemical peels
- Laser
Dietary Precautions
- Avoid eating junk and processed food
- Avoid sleeping at day time
- Exercise regularly
- Avoid heavy consumption of thick, heavy and sweet food
- Do not eat staple food
- Avoid cucumber, cold water and sweets
