What are the Medicinal Properties and Uses of Nirgundi?
Nirgundi is an evergreen medicinal herb used in Ayurveda which is native to India, Japan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. This is an herb which is loaded with many benefits which makes it useful in many diseases. The use of Nirgundi is done externally and internally and is equally beneficial in both. It is a muscle relaxant, anti-anxiety, anti-asthma, and has few more important properties. Smoke from its leaves is used as a mosquito repellent. Nirgundi is used in the treatment of diseases that occur due to vitiation of Vata and Kapha Dosha.
Its botanical name is Vitex negundo and belongs to family Verbenaceae.

What is the Medicinal Uses of Nirgundi?
1. Arthritis
Nirgundi acts as an anti-inflammatory which reduces arthritis pain and increases the growth of new tissues and repairs the damaged tissues. This herb reduces the immune response and prevents from other related disorders like degradation of joints.
2. Acidity
This herb counteracts the effects of acid and neutralizes the acidic content in the stomach. It provides relief in diarrheal symptoms such as reduces frequency and urgency of bowel movements.
3. Asthma and Cough
In asthma, this herb acts as a bronchodilator that dilates the bronchioles, relaxes the muscles of the lungs and widens the airways.
